AlNiCo magnet is the earliest developed permanent magnet material in 1930s, which is made of an alloy of aluminum, nickel, cobalt, iron and other trace metals. At that time, it had best magnetic properties and low temperature coefficient, so it widely used in permanent magnet motor. After 1960s, with the development of ferrite magnets and NdFeB magnet, the AlNiCo magnets were replace by them in the fields of permanent magnet motor step and step.
According to the different production process is divided into Sintered AlNiCo and Cast AlNiCo. Sintered Alnico magnet is manufactured using a powder metallurgy process which uses controlled atmosphere, high temperature sintering to produce near net shape parts. These may range in size from as little as .05g to 150g. Semi automated production enables adjustment of materials, and processing allows either a standard range of magnetic properties or individually tailored alloys to meet customer specifications.
Sintered AlNiCo offer slightly lower magnetic properties but better mechanical characteristics than the cast AlNiCo. Sintered AlNiCo magnets are most suitable in small sizes. The sintering process is well suited to large volume production, and results in parts which are structurally stronger than cast magnets. Relatively close tolerances can be achieved without grinding.
Typical magnetic properties of Sintered AlNiCo:
